Frienships

Hello, all. Internet nerds like "Ships" or, couplings of fiction characters. For example, some people ship Sherlolly, or, the pairing of Sherlock Holmes and Molly Hooper in the BBC show Sherlock. Just an example. Today, I'm going to talk about the best Ship of all- Friendship!
That was lame, I know, but... I needed some sort of segue!
Let's start with Friendship Number One- Harry Potter
This is the kind of friendship that I describe as everyday beauty. Harry, Ron, and Hermionie can laugh together, fight together, learn together, whatever- kid stuff! Normal things! There is a huge amount of development in their friendship, as well, like normal friends. Harry and Ron think Hermionie's a stuck-up prat at first, so they avoid her. But, they then realize she's brilliant, and reach out to her, befriend her. In the end, Ron and Hermionie end up a couple, and they have kids of their own in the epilogue.I'm not denoting the coolness of this trio, I am merely saying- you see it a lot.  Their friendship is dynamic- they end up willing to suffer for each other- but when you boil it down, it's dynamic in an every day way. Their friendship is beautiful, because it is normal- because we can all achieve it, and we probably all have, or will, at one point.

So that brings me to-
Type Two- Doctor Who
The Doctor has had MANY companions in 50 years, so I'll use the one that sums it up best- Donna Nobel, traveling with the Tenth Doctor!
Can we just take a second to appreciate the fact that Donna is touching the camera?... Okay, good, MOVING ON!
The Doctor is different, when it comes to friends. As humans, we have grown to NEED others, to survive, ourselves.  But... nowadays, not so much. As long as you can drive, you're basically fine. The Doctor, on the other hand- if he's by himself, he's..
Destructive. He can control himself, for a while, but push him over the edge, and you'll probably die. And he just might, too. But with a companion, like Donna- he's fine. He's contained. And, it's not just one way! Before the Doctor, Donna Noble was just a Temp who gossiped; she was a bit of a gold-digger, a flippant idiot! But with the Doctor, she cared. She cared so much, about so many, and helped save the Universe!
And IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED SEASON THREE OF DOCTOR WHO, SKIP THE NEXT 2 LINES! lest we forget what happened after she got her memory erased.... Proof that the Doctor was the one who changed her, brought the good out of her.
The Doctor and Donna's friendship is beautiful in a different way than Harry Potter's friends. Sure, they laugh, and cry, and go on adventures, but it's so much more. Their friendship is so beautiful, because they need each other to be people.  Without each other, they can literally not be productive beings. I was about to put "productive humans" but then I checked myself... Heh.. One's a Timelord, doofus, that's the point of the flipping show!... Donna saw a Doctor that was suffering, starting to get at his worst, took that , and brought him to his absolute best.  And to say that he did the same, is not even close to covering it.
But while that is AMAZING, that's not what I'm looking for. There's one more kind.
Type Three- Holmes and Watson

Okay, I know. Half of you are thinking, "But they're in LOVE! This about friendship, not ships, and they're an OTP, and JohnLock, and blah, blah blah!" Okay, hang on, hang on! I respect you shippers out there, but I don't ship it, for many reasons. (Though, as you'll read, I think they have the best fiction relationship in history of ever, so there's something!) For those of you that do, you'll still like the next paragraph that's coming, so read it!
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been considered brothers in bond for 130 years. No matter who plays them, they're the best example for best friends. In the book, and in the Show with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman(which is my favorite portrayal, and the one I talk about, so...), they show this affection for each other that is deeper than most frienships. They laugh, they solve crimes together. They are willing to die with one another, they're willing to go to jail together(see The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton- brilliant case- the one His Last Vow is based off of) in the name of justice. They are willing to die for each other, time and time again. I won't even go over how many times- the examples here are feelsy, and endless. Not only that, but they are instantly willing to kill for each other.
In episode one, A Study in Pink, John thinks that Sherlock is in danger of being killed by a cabbie, so...
the cabbie dies.
Not only does Sherlock... return the favor(SPOILERS!) in His Last Vow, fufilling his vow of keeping the Watsons safe no matter what, but he does it in the books too. When Watson is attacked from behind in The Adventure of the  Three  Garridebs , he sees Holmes looming over him, showing his concern! Holmes, a man of science, a machine who rarely showed any human qualities, bar brilliance and boredom, was showing and emotion, Rory! Over him! When Watson shakes out of it, Holmes shuts down his emotions again- like a light switch. But not before saying to the criminal- "By the Lord, it is well for you. If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive. "  He admits he would have killed the man for hurting his friend- in front of several police officers, with whom he worked with on a daily basis!
Guts.
Sherlock and John are willing to do so much for each other. Their friendship is brilliant- it brings out the humanity in Holmes, the brilliance of Watson. Holmes took a war-torn army Doctor, and made him whole. Watson took a machine with no friends, and gave him a heart- became his heart. So- in the modern day, where we allow that kind of romance to be, why doesn't Grace Chaple ship it like Fed-Ex. Well- that's the thing. Part of the reason I think Holmes and Watson should stay friends is for the sake of friendship itself! Their friendship shows me that anything can be. That anyone can put aside their differences, and help the person next to them, give them a reason to be a human. Sherlock and John's friendship is so beautiful, because it shows the true meaning of what friendship is- unbiased, unyielding, and wholehearted.
I respect your opinions- keep on shipping what you want to ship. I might not agree with you, but I can't stop ya! But to me, and probably to anyone with eyes and the ability to read comprehensively, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson's relationship doesn't just give me laughs, doesn't just give me something to fangirl about- their friendship gives me hope- for my own life, and for humanity.
